There are several things I don’t share with the cool bloggers/models I follow on Instagram and by that I mean almost everything – a knack for food styling, endless air miles, a photographer friend on hand (to catch all the times I just happen to be bashfully laughing down at my feet) and a pared back, Lucas Paw-Paw-on-everything approach to beauty. Whilst it’s a shame my birds-eye shots of avocado on toast will never look as delicious or stylish as Ella’s do, I do know one thing for sure – that I can absolutely fake her #IWokeUpLikeThis #blessed glow – by getting sensual with Kevyn Aucoin.
Kevyn once said “If you don’t want to spend time to look good, fine. [But] nothing great is easy.” Well of course I would never want to disrespect the god of modern makeup here, but fast forward to 2015 and Kevyn’s very own Sensual Skin Enhancer is affording me a Liv Tyler-in Lord of the Rings-glow in well under sixty seconds. But this isn’t simply a time-saving foundation people – this is an enhanced experience in makeup innovation that goes far beyond mere blemish concealing. Walk with me..
Rather than a stick, bullet, brush, or wanded-tube, the densely-pigmented Sensual Skin Enhancer is housed in a little maroon pot to be used in the manner of your choosing. It can indeed be used to conceal blemishes should the need arise, but its uses are innumerable. From highlighting to concealing under eye circles, to a custom blended tinted moisturiser, you are suddenly the creator of your very own DIY beauty balm using whatever you have to hand as a base.
Though suitable for all skin types, my fellow dry skinned sista’s will be pleased to hear this one’s for us! Honey and jojoba oil are two of the product’s main ingredients, making it immensely nourishing – the texture is thick and smooth without being tacky and it won’t settle into pores or fine lines. Bonus points on value too – the tiny pot will last you at least a year as a little goes a very long way. I personally like to use it neat from the pot and blended in with a damp sponge for a light wash of color, but if you’re in the mood from some heavy duty concealment, Kevyn’s got you covered. Whatever your preferred method, this is for skin so even and so hydrated that there’s a 50/50 chance you’ll be asked for ID when picking up the Lady Petrol (AKA Chardonnay) for your next girls night (anecdote based on actual event).
In addition to a pore smoothing, slightly dewy finish usually reserved for £600 facials, the peptide filled and paraben free formula works on actually strengthening your skin by preserving cells and soothing dryness and irritation. Sensitive skin type got you down? Then Kevyn is definitely friend not foe.
My mode of employment is as follows – use clean finger to dab tiny amount down the center of the face, under eyes and under cheek bones. Buff in using Shu Uemura’s Goat brush, then finish off blending with a slightly damp sponge. Consider this highlighting and sculpting the face rather than excessively contouring. I follow with my Laura Mercier Mineral Bronzing Powder and, if I’m going out, I’ll buff in Smashbox’s formidable contouring pencil around my jawline, temples and cheekbones followed by a dab of RMS’s Living Luminizer for a dewy yet chiselled look.
So fuck you bloggers and your lentil induced luminance – I can glow too!
Delete your photo editing apps and start PicStitch-ing the shit out of your superior dermis. However you decide to use this product, your makeup will be #NoFilter worthy and you will still look like yourself – just a little more…sensual.
